Look at You Twitter, all grown up!

 Twitter celebrated it's 5th birthday, not a big stretch in human years but in tech years, quite an achievement.Twitter's first ever Tweet was, fittingly, from Jack Dorsey, one of the creators of Twitter. It was a fairly humble message - no great fuss, just this simple status update:Twitter's achievement to date is amazing considering their service hasn't been monetized until only recently. Here's a quick run-down of the major milestones in their journey so far:11th November 2008: Twitter took 3 years, 2 months and 1 day to hit one billion tweets17th April 2009: Twitter journey into the mainstream when, CNN went head to head against Ashton Kutcher, in a race to reach one million followers14th June 2009: Twitter became a legitimate reporting tool, when it captured the first photos of the iranian protest before mainstream media even picked up on itMarch 2011: Twitter is reported to have 500, 000 accounts and growingNovember 2010: When Twitter implemented promoted trends, which was their first of many monetizing strategy roll out As smartphones saturate more of the global market, Twitter is coming into its own.
