Happy Data Privacy Day! Celebrate by Checking Twitter's New Transparency Website

Happy Data Privacy Day world!

Those of us outside of the USA, Canada and the 27 European nations that "believe it in" might not be celebrating the day as much as they are, but as lovers of the internet we should still be cracking a celebratory drink and blowing on the party whistle (we already had our public holiday recently in Auckland so we should be happy enough already with a short week). The purpose of Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness and promote date privacy education. In celebration of openness and transparency on Data Privacy Day, Twitter have launched a new website (they have been busy lately!) called Transparency.twitter.com, which basically lets us know how much the government is snooping on us (Yay! Just what we need, more crazy people using 'statistics' to back up their crazy claims of government conspiracy and how the government is taking over our lives. ALL OUR LIVES!)

The website seems to be a new place for Twitter to publish their biannual Twitter Transparency Report and keep us informed of when the government (aka THOSE MEN IN DARK SUITS AND GLASSES) tries to intercept in our lives, but I can't see much use for it other than that.

It's interesting to note that while Facebook are closing ranks and getting more private, Twitter are saying to their followers 'Hey we are open and transparent, come and check us out instead of that other social media platform where they don't tell you anything and actually share everything of yours with those men in the shady glasses'.
