The Social-Lite: Episode 1 from Social Media NZ on Vimeo.

Before we get into this week's wrap-up post, we are excited to reveal our first weekly video wrap-up of the week's big social media and tech news. We here at Social Media NZ will be rolling out more videos over the coming weeks, ranging from vlogging about specific social media subjects, weekly wrap-ups with our lovely host Jill Clark, event coverage and updates on what is going here at Social Media NZ. So with that out of the way let's get into what's been happening this week.* A big social media event was in held in Auckland this week, with a range of international speakers who spoke about social media ROI. Prior to the event I wrote on the foibles of social media ROI and after the event I broke down the key takeouts from the event.* The big international news this week was Facebook's announcement of their new messaging system. We think it's more of a communication revolution.* Julian Smith, general manager of MYOB here in New Zealand guest-blogged about Kiwi businesses on social media* Graeme Russell from Adage Business looks at why it's about time we started looking out for each other on social networks.* In other news, Myspace sucked it up and partnered up with Facebook, in what we think is a good move on their part.* Hashtags: how do we seperate the spam from the useful ones?* This week we saw the long time rivalry between Apple and the Beatles finally come to an end.News you may have missed this week:* Social networks have always been a numbers game, but this week we saw a startup by the name of Path that's going against the status quo. Path will be a more intimate social setting for netizens, with a limit of 50 people and a mission statement of "the anti social network"* This week we also saw a Chinese woman sent to a labour camp over a tweet.Video Of The Week:
