GridAKL Innovation Day – a festival of creative and high-tech industries

In case you haven’t heard of GridAKL, it is part of the innovation precinct in Wynard Quarter operating out of three flagship buildings, John Lysaght, Mason Brothers and 12 Madden Street. Seeking to grow innovative businesses, create jobs, and enrich the innovation community for Auckland’s economic future, GridAKL aims to be a major Asia-Pacific hub and a showcase of innovation in creative and high-tech industries. They host a heap of cool events and this Friday the 6th of October, they are opening their doors for a public festival of innovation!

In celebration of the expansion of GridAKL, there will be a range of keynote speakers and workshops, activation and demonstrations both live and online, for free!

There are a number of summits which will be held on the day, covering an extensive range of topics in innovation. The Breakfast Summit will discuss how innovation will shape the future of New Zealand and the way we tell our stories to the world. The Digital Intelligence Summit at midday will discuss how Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR) and Big Data will change the way we work, and where and how we do business. The AI afternoon workshop will operate as a panel discussion of Consumer AI: ‘What you’re probably using today, what you’re going to be using in the near future and the impact it will have on day to day living’. Each of which will have a series of moderated keynote speakers.

Other advertised highlights include the Artificial Intelligence Lab which will showcase some of New Zealand’s most innovative AI technology and will offer the public an opportunity to get a first-hand experience using and seeing AI in action from the likes of FaceMe, Labyrinth, and Rush Digital. An AR/VR Garage will also be onsite with an activation space featuring StaplesVR, Verso, arc/sec, ARX, ImmerseMe and Datacom.

One of the most exciting events of the festival will be the first New Zealand showcase of the Soul Machines Baby X5 AI-powered avatar.

Founded by Dr Mark Sagar, Soul Machines is a ground-breaking high-tech company made-up of AI researchers, neuroscientists, psychologists, artists and innovative thinkers; re-imagining what is possible in Human Computing. The company brings technology to life by creating life-like, responsive digital humans, with personality, character, and emotion response, with a vision to humanize computing. Baby X5 has wowed leading technology influencers worldwide, so it is an exciting opportunity for anyone heading to GridAKL.

Soul Machines’ work is incredibly fascinating and they’ve recently collaborated with Air New Zealand on another incredible project, so check out our next post later in the week for more.
