Yes! It’s true! Facebook have announced Facebook Messenger is now available with no Facebook account. But, as with all other cool things, it hasn’t reached us here in little old New Zealand yet. If you’re reading this from Canada, the US, Peru or Venezuela, you’re in luck! Facebook are starting to roll out a new way to sign up to Facebook Messenger – without a Facebook account.
With the update, more people can enjoy all the features that Messenger has to offer – including photos, videos, group chats, voice and video calling and more. All you need is a phone number.
Here’s how it works:
- On the Messenger welcome screen, you will now see an option that says “Not on Facebook?”
- From there, you can sign up with your name, phone number and a photo
For those who have Facebook accounts, there are many benefits to using your Facebook account when signing up to Messenger as many of us would know. People can easily message with their Facebook friends and contacts, access their Facebook messages and take advantage of multi-device messaging across all devices and the web.
Here’s hoping the new option reaches NZ soon for those family members who are adamant on not signing up to Facebook but want to be kept up to date with family etc.
I am hopeful there may also be an option to access your ‘others’ folders via Messenger in the near future unless somebody can teach me something new?!
