This week Hannah talks about blogs. Almost everyone has a blog of some sorts but are they good? In this post, Hannah shares some tips on how to create an excellent blog
I think it’s great we can all broadcast our thoughts and feelings publicly – I mean, who in their right mind would write in a private diary these days? All that juicy content going unread and unappreciated? Turns the stomach.
Ugh, yes. Because everyone in the world needs to hear about your decade-long weight loss journey, the moistness of your fettuccine cupcakes, and the chunks in your baby’s vomit.
Oh, don’t worry, I’m right there with them. I’ve contributed to the massive pile of crap, unedited, uninformed, useless content stinking up the Internet – Blogger, Tumblr, Posterous (don’t worry, Twitter will mess that one up shortly anyway), WordPress, yep, I’ve started a blog on whim using pretty much every platform that exists.
But that’s the issue you see – creating a blog on a little idea in a flash of excitement; getting overexcited, buying the domain name, claiming the Twitter handle, and spending hours customising the theme, writing a few posts…only to have it die a small and inconsequential death some months after you’ve given up posting on it, and don’t want to pay the renewal fee on the domain.
So. No more. No more wasting your time and effort. No more domain purchase regret. Let us stop being crap at starting blogs.
Here’s a few questions you should ask yourself before you hit ‘create blog’.
