Facebook Credits gift cards are bigger than we think.

Facebook began selling their gift cards in September throughout Target stores across the US, and today announced that Wal-Mart and Best Buy will also begin stocking the Facebook Credit gift cards.Facebook Credits are a virtual currency redeemable for in-game Facebook purchases, gift purchasing or donations to a cause. Using the love-it-or-hate-it game Farmville as an example, gamers can use Facebook Credits as a currency to purchase additional or special items for their farms.Facebook Credits have been around since the existence of Facebook, allowing users to buy virtual goods and send them as gifts to other Facebook users. The concept didn't realise its full potential until games such as Farmville, Mafia Wars and others came along. This year, Facebook launched its e-commerce store which got a lot of retail brands excited but never saw substantial consumer uptake. Security and privacy are important considerations in the area of online shopping, and given Facebook's track record it appears consumers are being suitably cautious. With Facebook Credits gift cards we may start to see more companies implementing Facebook's e-commerce service, as there's every chance it will give users added peace of mind when it comes to buying a product on Facebook.Facebook Credits gift cards are only available in the Unites States at the moment, but are due to roll out in other countries very soon.[Image Credit: Zimbio]
