iPhone iOS4 Review

Apple released the iOS4 update earlier this morning. This update will give iPhone 3G and 3GS users a taste of the new iPhone 4 software. The iOS4 is a free update for iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch 2nd generation and above only. Here are a few of the stand out features:

  • Multi-tasking: Depending on how many applications you've open up, the applications will display in an "exposé-style presentation" style, similar to your iMac or MacBook. This feature will make app-switching smoother and easier for users without having to completely exit an application.
  • Folders: Organisation of applications has been a big pain for users. With the iOS4 update, users can group applications together to create a folder, simply by dragging dropping applications on one another. This will be a huge time saver when it comes to finding your applications.
  • Camera Zoom-in and Tap-Focus video: iPhone 3G and 3GS owners have a 5x Zoom-In feature. Unfortunately the quality on the camera is not good enough to take advantage of it. Tap-to-focus feature only applies for iPhone 3GS owners.
  • Spell-Checking: An improved "spell check" feature, which now works across all applications Mail, Safari, Notes, Twitter clients and other applications that is text based.

On the down side, there have been various reports online that people have been having trouble with the software installation. Best advice is to back up your iPhone before updating. What is the stand-out feature of iOS4 for you?
