Dan Bilzerian - The Man Who Would Be King

There’s a new alpha male in town, and his name is Dan Bilzerian, he’s a professional poker player with one particularly epic beard, and who’s twitter account reads: ‘Actor, Astronaut, Asshole”, and he’s not apologizing for any of it. His success as a poker player has allowed him to live a larger than life lifestyle, and has earned him the title of ‘Instagram’s Playboy King’ courtesy of Buzzfeed. As a professional poker player Bilzerian has won over $50 million dollars, and is rumored to have a networth of $100 million dollars, generated from his poker winnings and investments in venture capital enterprises. With this behind him he’s been able to afford to live the ultimate hedonistic lifestyle around his three favorite things: guns, girls and gambling, and he’s taken to Instagram (he has over 2.6 million followers) as his primary social media outlet, along with corresponding Facebook and Twitter accounts (although recently he has been threatening to shutdown his Twitter account) to express this.In a series of highly publicized interviews with leading poker magazine All In, Bilzerian talked about his very simple approach behind his Instagram and why he thinks it connects with people the way it does: “post something cool, or don’t post at all.” While this explanation might be simple and direct, Bilzerian did expand on his thoughts on social media, and the reasons behind why he posts what he posts. “I just look back at my life and at the end of the day, you’ve got your memories…I did 510 days of SEAL training and I don’t have a single picture of it. I had a bunch of badass parties in college and I don’t have a single picture of it. Flying on private planes and doing cool shit when I was a kid, I don’t have a single picture of it. A lot of that stuff you just forget about. I always hated pictures as a kid, but I always wanted them after. About a year ago, I just really started making a conscientious effort to try and take one picture every time I did something. And it seems like people are responding well.”But its not just Bilzerian who has his own social media presence…so does his cat, the ever adorable Smushball. Smushball, has her own Instagram account which has over 253, 000 followers, and is filled with videos of Smushball, and Bilzerian’s resident lady friend Andreea Bolboa, posing for selfies and just looking cute and adorable. If you're Dan Bilzerian, your cat has it’s own social media accounts, it just kind of works. But while Bilzerian’s account might be filled with hedonistic photos of himself blowing things up with automatic weapons, while a bevy of beautiful women, all in various stages of undress stand behind him, he’s has also used his social media persona to do good. He gave $10,000 to the Typhoon Haiyan relief effort, and plans to give over $100,000 dollars to charity efforts by Christmas, he’s also asked his followers for nominations of deserving kids, with life threatening illnesses or disabilities, who might be interested in hanging out with him and sharing in one of his many crazy adventures. While Dan Bilzerian has the coolest Instagram account on the planet, and populates it with images and videos of truly mind-blowing things, he’s simply doing what he loves, “in life you have to do what makes you happy, I’m just doing what makes me happy. Some people envy it, some people resent it, some people don’t understand it. I’m just being me.” And for a social media user, that’s a pretty cool attitude to have.
